Job Description
We are looking to recruit a Litigation Assistant to join our busy Dispute Resolution Department based in the Cardiff Office.
We would envisage the role being full time, but we would consider applicants wishing to work part-time to accommodate their legal studies. Although there is no guarantee of a training contract, we very much hope that the right candidate would be able to progress towards becoming a Trainee Solicitor within 18 months.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
· Administrative tasks such as opening new files, carrying out necessary MLR checks for new clients, billing, and processing payments.
· Preparing bundles of documents for trial, interim applications, and case management conferences.
· Compiling document lists / indexes for disclosure.
· Preparing Instructions to Counsel and to experts.
· Preparing Statements of Costs and Cost Budgets.
· Legal research.
· Drafting / setting up letters and claim documents for the solicitors (i.e., pre-action letters, claim forms, letters to court).
· Preparing Court documents for filing and service.
· Corresponding with clients by email, e.g., to seek their instructions and keep them updated as their claim progresses.
· Corresponding regularly with the Court, Counsel, and experts, by telephone to track the progress of clients’ claims.
· Handling new telephone enquiries from prospective clients.
Applicant Criteria
Required skills and experience:
· A degree at 2:1 level or above
· Excellent communication skills
· Organised and methodical approach with good attention to detail
· Ability to work well individually and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
