Martin Pursall LLB (Hons) Law with French; Diplome d’Etudes Juridiques Francaises
Martin Pursall is a Partner at Berry Smith and heads up the Commercial Property Department’s Secured Lending Team, acting for various locally based banks and financial institutions in their funding of development sites and investment property portfolios for customers and properties all over the UK.
Martin joined Berry Smith as a Partner in 2000 having previously been an Associate in regional firm Bevan Ashford. Prior to that, Martin worked for Norton Rose in the City of London for 11 years including his two year Training Contract.
Martin is a graduate of the University of Leicester where he was one of the “guinea pigs” on the inaugural Law with French degree course which involved spending a year at Strasbourg University in France where he obtained a Diplome d’Etudes Juridiques Francaises. Martin is a fluent French speaker.
Martin has extensive experience of all aspects of commercial property work. As well as acting for various locally based banks and financial institutions, Martin also acts for developers in commercial and residential development site acquisitions and for various Landlords and Tenants in the granting and taking of Commercial Leases of office space, industrial units and retail premises.
Martin’s particular expertise is in secured lending, acting for Principality Commercial, HSBC Bank, Santander, Handelsbanken and Hodge Bank. However, Martin has also acted for South African based bank, First Rand Bank (trading as Motonovo Finance) in their acquisition of a new fifteen year Lease of 71,000 square feet of office space at the new Flagship Office Development by Rightacres/L&G at One Central Square, Cardiff, adjacent to Cardiff Central Railway Station.

Martin is regularly cited in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners Legal Directories in which he is quoted as being “commercial” and having a “practical, responsive and matter of fact attitude”.
Martin is a regular guest speaker for RICS Wales and was nominated for Commercial Property Lawyer of the Year in the People in Property Awards Wales 2009.
Outside of Berry Smith, Martin is Chairman of Cadoxton Imps AFC, a non-profit local amateur football club in Barry and is a drummer in a semi-professional rock band.
